Job Description
The National University of Singapore invites applications for Research Fellow for the project “Rationally designed immunotherapeutics for joint disorders” in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. Appointments will be made on a 1 year renewable contract basis. The Department is actively engaged in cutting edge research that encompasses basic science research, translational research and clinical applications of new technologies. Over the years, we have established multi-disciplinary research capabilities in the field of musculoskeletal tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, and developed the expertise to translate our research findings from the laboratory bench to bedside.
Purpose of the post
We are seeking a highly motivated Post-doctoral Research Fellow to join our team working on an exciting project in immunotherapy. The project focuses on developing and optimizing multifunctional nanoparticles as a novel immunotherapeutic for osteoarthritis (OA), tailored to the dynamic immune cell profile, for personalized OA treatment. The ideal candidate will participate in preclinical studies, utilizing cutting-edge cellular and molecular techniques to dissect the immune cell profile during OA progression, and work in a highly inter-disciplinary team to design and develop novel nanoparticle-based therapeutics for enhanced immunomodulation in OA treatment.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
The Research Fellow will:
- Drive and coordinate the overall progress of the project. He/she will plan, design and perform experiments, including but not limited to cell culture, qRT-PCR, transfection, western blotting, flow cytometry, histology, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, RNA sequencing, proteomics, metabolomics, and related data and statistical analyses;
- Prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals, ensuring high-quality work, data presentation, and analysis
- Conduct literature search and propose new research ideas for exploration;
- Contribute to the preparation of research proposals for grant applications and funding opportunities;
- Provide guidance and training to undergraduate/graduate students and junior researchers in laboratory techniques and research methods;
- Present research findings in meetings and conferences, and actively engaging in scientific discussions to further the goal of the research project;
- Collaborate with local and overseas researchers, including academic institutions, and industry partners, as required;
- Ensure the highest standard of professional conduct and compliance in accordance with the institutional guidelines and regulations.
Qualifications
- A PhD degree from a reputable university in Chemical/Biomedical Engineering or Biomedical/Life Sciences;
- At least 3 years of experience in laboratory-based research, and proficient in techniques including but not limited to cell culture, qRT-PCR, transfection, western blotting, flow cytometry, histology, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, RNA sequencing, proteomics, and metabolomics, and related data and statistical analyses;
- Experience in material synthesis would be advantageous, but not compulsory;
- Experience in animal surgeries would be advantageous, but not compulsory;
- At least 1 first-author original research publication in top-tier journals in the last 3 years;
- Meticulous with positive work attitude, passion for research, and able to work in a fast-paced research environment as a team member;
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills;
- Well-organized in keeping a good record of research data
