Job Description

The National University of Singapore invites applications for a Clinical Research fellow or Research Fellow in the Departments of Ophthalmology, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.

Myopia is reaching epidemic magnitudes in Asia, and especially in Singapore. The Eye N’ Brain Research Group led by Assistant Professor Raymond P. Najjar are developing and testing novel light-based strategies for safe and passive myopia prevention and control. As part of the LightSPAN project, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in a school-based trial focused on evaluating a novel therapy for myopia prevention and control. Collaborating closely with pediatric ophthalmologists, optometrists, educators, child psychologists and public health experts, the candidate will contribute to the advancement of innovative approaches to myopia prevention and control in Singapore and the world.

Appointment will be made on a one-year contract basis in the first instance, with the possibility of extension for at least one more year. The position is available immediately.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The Research Fellow will lead the school-based trial and work closely with the Principal Investigator and a team of Research Assistants and Research Associates with different backgrounds optometry, cognitive neurosciences, global health, nursing, data management to ensure the successful execution and completion of the project.

The successful candidate will be part of a versatile research group from NUS and the Singapore Eye Research Institute SERI, and will benefit from a lab equipped with state of the art ophthalmic examination and research equipment. Appropriate mentoring will be provided with the aim to produce high-impact publications and secure additional research funding. The candidate will also have the opportunity to comentor PhD Students.

Qualifications

  • A PhD in Visual Sciences, Optometry or other related disciplines
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in myopia research including master's and/or PhD
  • Good knowledge in running clinical trials
  • Knowledge in data processing, analysis, and statistics
  • Excellent data interpretation and communication skills
  • Excellent scientific writing skills manuscripts and grant applications
  • Soft skills: good in project management, self-motivated, adaptable, and a team player
