Overview

The Department of Pathology at the National University of Singapore invites applications for a Research Fellow to join a multidisciplinary team studying haematolymphoid malignancies, with a focus on lymphoma. The lab integrates genomics, digital pathology and advanced spatial platforms to advance biomarker discovery and pre-clinical testing of novel therapeutic agents. Your work will support improvements in diagnosis, prognosis and therapeutic targeting for patients with lymphoma. You will contribute to both experimental and analytical workstreams by working closely with various research teams to deliver project aims. In this role, you will also support research operations including grant reporting and laboratory safety coordination.

Key responsibilities

• Research execution (primary responsibility)
• Plan and conduct laboratory and/or computational experiments under the guidance of senior investigators.
• Contribute to study design, data collection, analysis, and interpretation for translational pathology projects (e.g., NGS, IHC, spatial assays, image analysis).
• Design and perform wet laboratory experiments including molecular biology assays, mammalian cell culture and in vivo animal studies
• Maintain accurate experimental documentation and ensure data integrity and reproducibility.
• Prepare contributions to manuscripts, abstracts, reports, and conference presentations.
• Collaboration and contribution
• Work closely with clinical teams, core facilities and collaborating scientists to deliver project aims.
• Participate in regular research meetings and contribute to project planning and troubleshooting.
• Support assay development and preliminary validation activities as required.
• Funding and dissemination (support role)
• Assist with grant preparation, budget tracking and progress reporting.

• • Maintain organised records for grants and research activities (e.g., reporting materials, project documentation).
  • Seek opportunities for early-career funding and training fellowships with mentorship from senior staff.

• Research Operations and compliance
• Ensure compliance with institutional and funder requirements (ethics, biospecimen handling, data management).
• Implement good laboratory practice and contribute to quality assurance for research activities.
• As the designated Lab Safety Lead, take ownership of the lab's safety program by developing and implementing safety protocols, training new members, acting as the liaison with institutional EHS, and leading the response to safety audits and incidents to ensure a culture of best practice and compliance.

Qualifications

Essential qualifications and experience

• PhD in life sciences, biomedical sciences, biochemistry, or a closely related field from a well-recognised university.

• 0–3 years post-certification or equivalent research experience; demonstrable research potential (publications, conference abstracts or relevant project work).
• Familiarity with one or more laboratory relevant to the research focus.

Desirable skills and attributes

• Strong interest in translational pathology research and evidence of research aptitude.
• Basic competence in laboratory techniques (molecular assays, immunohistochemistry) and data analysis.
• Good organisational skills, attention to detail and ability to work collaboratively.
• Willingness to learn grant-writing, data analysis and bioinformatics skills.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.

• Contribution to peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations.
• Successful completion of assigned project milestones and experimental aims.
• Progress in acquiring research skills and early-career funding (where applicable).

Working conditions and expectations

• Full-time research appointment with protected research time
• No line management, formal supervision or mentorship responsibilities.
• Close scientific supervision and mentorship provided by senior investigators; expectation to develop increasing independence.
• Access to departmental facilities, core labs and institutional research support.
• Participation in departmental research meetings and training activities.

Appointment level and remuneration

• Junior/assistant-level research appointment; rank and salary to follow institutional guidelines and be commensurate with experience.
