Job Description

The new Centre for Investor Protection aims to undertake independent research, public education and related activities to promote the improvement of investor protection in Singapore and beyond. Projects conducted by the centre should have significant implications for policy and practices relating to investor protection. The key types of research and activities to be conducted are:

 

(a)    Practice and academic research 
(b)    Case studies
(c)    Public education seminars and workshops 
(d)    Other activities directly related to the centre’s purpose

 

The Research Manager will report to the centre Director and is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of the centre’s projects. This includes working with the centre Director and project leaders in designing and implementing research methodologies, analyzing data, providing actionable insights to key stakeholders; and overseeing and managing the writing and editing of case studies. The Research Manager will also be responsible for managing a team of researchers and student assistants and ensuring the successful execution of projects within established timelines and budgets.

 

The Research Manager is also expected to provide administrative and operational support for the centre, co-ordination of events, and collaborations with both internal and external parties.


Responsibilities (including but not limited to)

  • Working with the centre Director and Project Leaders to develop and implement research strategies and methodologies, including designing research studies, such as developing survey questionnaires, interview protocols, and data collection methods.
  • Manage the research process, including data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Oversee and manage the publication of an annual collection of case studies.
  • Ensure that centre projects are conducted within established timelines and budgets.
  • Lead a team of researchers and student assistants, providing guidance and support throughout the projects.
  • Monitor industry trends and current issues to inform research strategies.
  • Prepare and assist with presentation of research findings to key stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with external research partners and vendors.
  • Stay updated with the latest research tools, methodologies, and technologies, and recommend their adoption as appropriate.
  • Document all research related activities, budgets and outputs.
  • Assist in the planning, coordination and administration of the centre’s events and visitors.
  • Work with auditors to ensure the proper documentation of financial accounts of the centre.
  • Manage procedural matters regarding hiring of student assistants, contingent hires, facilitation of quotations and tracking of purchase and invoices. 
  • Any other ad-hoc duties as assigned by the centre Director.

Requirements/Competencies

  • Possess high level of integrity.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyse complex data sets and generate meaningful insights.
  • Excellent project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent writing, communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate research findings particularly to investors, practitioners and policy makers.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality output.
  • Excellent organization and time-management skills.
  • Strong sense of initiative, commitment and self-driven.
  • Ability to work effectively across departments within the University.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (such as accounting, business or social sciences).
  • At least 3 years of experience, preferably undertaking research projects that are practice or policy-related in topics relevant to investor protection or corporate governance.
  • Strong passion in the area of corporate governance or investor protection; experience in these areas will be a plus.
  • Proven experience in research management, including designing and conducting research studies, data analysis, and reporting.
  • Proficient in using research tools and software for collecting and analysing large data obtained from public information, such as company announcements and annual reports.
