Job Description

The National University of Singapore invites applications for position of Research Assistant in the Ion Channel and Transporter Lab, Department of Physiology, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. The candidate will be involved in the investigation of calcium channel alternative splicing and RNA editing using transgenic mouse model and patch-clamp electrophysiological methods for brain slice recordings. Appointments will be made on a one-year contract basis in the first instance, with the possibility of extension for a second year.

 

Purpose of the post

The Research Assistant (RA) will be responsible to, and work closely with, the Principal Investigator, the Director of the NUS Electrophysiology Core, and study team members to ensure the successful completion of work assigned. The RA’s principal role will be to work in patch-clamp electrophysiology (training will be provided), molecular and cell biology and working with rodents as models of health and disease.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The Research Assistant will work closely with the PI or the Director of the NUS Electrophysiology Core. The duties include, but are not exclusive to the following:

  1. Perform patch-clamp electrophysiological recordings on excitable cells such as neurons and muscle cells or on brain slices;
  2. Conduct experiments employing molecular and cell biological and biochemical methods;
  3. Conduct imaging studies;
  4. Contribute to lab duties and other work-related activities;
  5. Keep records and work done and to present for discussions;
  6. Assist with any other duties of a similar nature that are delegated by the PI or Director of NUS Electrophysiology Core.

Qualifications

The applicant should:

  1. Have a first degree with good results or holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Science or related disciplines;
  2. Be able to work independently and in a team;
  3. Have knowledge or skills in basic animal handling or behavioural studies;
  4. Have experiences in Molecular and Cell Biology and Biochemistry;
  5. Have experience or willingness to be trained in patch-clamp electrophysiological techniques and brain slice recordings.

 

Remuneration will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
