Our vision at the Institute for Environment and Sustainability (IES) is to develop “fit-for-purpose” policy solutions to address Southeast Asia’s most pressing environmental and sustainability challenges. As part of the prestigious Lee Kwan Yew School of Public Policy (LKYSPP), our mission is to enhance policy design capacity building through research, training, dialogues, and problem-oriented analysis.

 

About the role


We are urgently seeking to appoint an exceptional Senior Research Fellow to join IES’s burgeoning Climate Policy Design Lab and contribute to ongoing policy-relevant research projects. The Fellow will join an international and highly interdisciplinary team that focuses on identifying policy pathways leading to effective climate and environmental policy action in Southeast Asia. Particularly, the Fellow will contribute to IES’s focus on understanding policy learning processes that enable for enhancing policymakers’ policy design capacity. The Fellow will lead research projects and contribute to grant development and applications, publish research in high-tier research outlets, take responsibility for project and grant management, and contribute to and support stakeholder liaison and outreach. 

Job Requirements

Your application should clearly demonstrate that you meet the following criteria:


Essential
•    Hold a PhD in Public Policy, Political Science, Climate and Environmental Policy, Global Affairs or a related field
•    A minimum of six years of relevant post-doctoral experience
•    Excellent conceptual understanding of policy learning and its link to other issues in the Policy Sciences such as policy change; first experience in empirical projects focusing on policy learning
•    Record of publications in high-tier research outlets appropriate to stage of career
•    Proficient in quantitative and/or qualitative research methods
•    Evidence of contributing to research projects (development) and outputs, including collaboration and outreach
•    Experience in working effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team and excellent oral and written communication skills (English)
•    Excellent analytical skills


Desirable
•    Knowledge of anticipatory policy design and practice, including path dependency analysis
•    Good time management skills and ability to multi-task effectively
•    Advanced knowledge of research methods such as network analysis, text-as-data or machine-learning approaches, data analysis, comparative policy analysis, process tracing, surveys and interviews
•    Track record of earning research income through competitive grants
•    Established international network of collaborators
