Job Description
The Centre for Family and Population Research at Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, National University of Singapore (NUS) is recruiting 2 Postdoctoral Fellows for the project. This research project aims to develop an evidence base on the role of gender inequality in shaping women's health in low and middle-income countries (LMICs). Using the life course framework, it endeavours to illustrate a series of novel pathways linking gender inequality and gender-based adversities with the health and well-being of women in mid and later-life. The project's objectives include research publications on the topic, the establishment of a global research network on gender inequality and later-life health, and the production of a policy document containing a summary of key research findings, research, and data gaps, as well as policy suggestions.
The postdoc will work with the Principal Investigator (PI) and Co-PIs to develop multiple research papers. Job duties include, but not limited to, the following:
- Data management and analyses of survey data
- Draft and submit papers (at least 3 per year), as a co-author, for publication in high-impact scientific journals with the PI and co-PIs on the project
- Develop research briefs for public dissemination (at least 1 per year)
- Assist the PI with project management
Qualifications
Applicants should have:
- A Ph.D. in a social science discipline from a recognized university, preferably in disciplines such as Sociology, Demography, Public Policy, Public Health, Gerontology or Economics.
- Research expertise in gender, population health, the study of the life course and family demography.
- Extensive training in quantitative statistical analyses.
- Good record of publications
- Strong written and spoken communication skills.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
Competencies
- Skills in quantitative research skills such as regression analyses, longitudinal analyses, multilevel modelling, survival analyses among others.
- Excellent writing and strong communication skills in English, including an ability to present research in both academic and non-academic venues
- Meticulous and has good project management skills
- Curiosity and passion to explore new concepts, methodologies and technologies
- Capable of identifying and learning quickly the most suitable tools for the research
- Good team player and ability to multitask effectively
