Job Description

The Institute for Applied Learning Sciences and Educational Technology (ALSET) (to be renamed Centre for Holistic Inquiry into Lifelong Learning (CHILL)) has an opening for a Research Fellow role.

 

The Research Fellow will be responsible for working closely with the Principal Investigator (A/Prof Suranga Nanayakkara). Their role involves designing a system for inclusive blended learning solutions for diverse learner populations and context-specific content delivery.

 

Additionally, the Research Fellow will work in the broader field of Human Computer Interaction (HCI) on prototyping, developing and testing both full-stack and embedded software specifications of the human computer interfaces. The Research Fellow will also be involved in developing various artefacts contributing to the Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) aspect of HCI research, and leading appropriate research activities.

 

Major responsibilities include:

1.           Leading projects on designing and developing a system that delivers contextually adaptive content and a system that modulates video lectures based on physiological data.

2.           Working with the PI to conduct original, impactful research.

3.           Coordinate with the Research Fellows and provide guidance to Software Engineers and UI/UX Researchers in the group.

4.           Contribute to disseminate research outcomes to the audience in the field of Blended Learning through presentations, demonstrations and journal/conference papers.

5.           Participation in project meetings as well as industrial/academic events.

Qualifications

  • A PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, HCI with background in Education Research.
  • Prior experience and knowledge in the application of Artificial Intelligence in Online/Blended Learning Environments.
  • Experience in working with wearable sensors and physiological signals.
  • Good track record of research with a good publication record.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.

 

 

The initial term of appointment will be 1 year. The selected candidate will be offered competitive salaries and benefits.
