The National University of Singapore invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow

in the Departments of Ophthalmology and Biomedical Engineering. The Eye N’ Brain Research Group led by Assistant Professor Raymond P. Najjar is interested in neurobiological interactions between the eye and the brain and in processes by which light can regulate ocular and neurological functioning and development. The goal of our group is to translate fundamental findings in visual neurosciences into screening and therapeutic interventions.

Appointment will be made on a one-year contract basis in the first instance, with the possibility of extension for at least one more year. The position is available immediately.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will be involved in an innovative research project investigating novel artificial intelligence-driven pupillometric and eye-tracking strategies to detect ocular and cerebral neurodegeneration.

The successful candidate will be part of a versatile research group from NUS and the Singapore Eye Research Institute (SERI) and will benefit from a lab equipped with state-of-the-art ophthalmic examination and research equipment. Appropriate mentoring and support will be provided by the senior members of the team, with the aim of producing high-impact publications and securing additional and individual research funding. The candidate will also have the opportunity to co-mentor Ph.D. Students.

Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. in Visual Sciences or Visual Neurosciences or Cognitive Neurosciences or other related disciplines
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in visual sciences research, light, pupillometry, and/or gaze tracking (including years of master's and/or Ph.D.)
  • Good knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the visual system
  • Knowledge in data processing, analysis and statistics
  • Excellent data interpretation and communication skills
  • Excellent scientific writing skills (manuscripts and grant applications)
  • Knowledge in device development and coding is a plus
  • Soft skills: self-motivated, adaptable, and a team player
