Research Assistant, School of Computing
Date: 26 Aug 2024
Location: COMPUTING, Kent Ridge Campus, SG
Company: National University of Singapore
Job Purpose
The National University of Singapore invites applications for the position of Research Assistant in the Department of Computer Science, School of Computing (SoC). Embedded systems are increasingly being deployed in large numbers. A significant challenge lies in the disparity between the power consumption required for wireless communication versus sensing and processing tasks. Wireless communication demands much higher power, making embedded systems heavily reliant on batteries, which need frequent replacement. This becomes problematic at scale, as the disposal of many batteries can negatively impact the environment due to the toxic chemicals like lithium and lead used in them.
We are focused on designing novel low-power sensors and communication mechanisms to address the high power consumption associated with wireless communication. Specifically, we are exploring the development of tunnel diode and Li-Fi-based light sensors and receivers. The research assistant will contribute to these efforts by designing electronic hardware for sensing using radio frequency signals and creating energy-efficient communication systems employing tunnel diodes, backscatter, and Li-Fi.
- Assist in developing energy-efficient systems that can be presented at academic conferences.
