Research Assistant / Associate (Social Sciences)

Job Description

Social Service Research Centre (SSR) at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, National University of Singapore (NUS), would like to invite suitable candidates to apply for a full‐time position as Research Assistant / Associate (RA). The appointment will be for a period of 1 year at the first instance, with the possibility of renewal.

Since April 2015, SSR has been creating change through impactful social service research and capability development.  We are dedicated to promote and test social innovations and help evolve a new social service infrastructure for Singapore's next phase of social development. SSR is the focal point of rigorous applied research, working in tandem with social service leaders in government, civil society, and private philanthropic institutions to critic, test-bed and facilitate large-scale, community-based service innovations through a variety of methods including programme evaluation and social analytics.

The RA will join a dynamic multi-disciplinary team, where research fellows, research associates and research assistants work in two to three projects and support other functions in the centre. He/she will have the opportunity to work with academics, field practitioners, government and non-governmental agencies.

The job scope of the advertised position includes:

• Coordinate various aspects of research project administration and fieldwork;
• Recruit, screen, and track study participants;
• Administer surveys, interviews and focus group discussions under the Principal Investigator’s (PI) guidance;
• Assist PI with collecting, cleaning, coding and analyzing primary and secondary data;
• Assist PI with other relevant research tasks (such as literature review, IRB application and writing reports);
• Other tasks as assigned by SSR co-directors, for other major functions of the Centre such as publications, seminars, and conferences.

Qualifications

The candidate should possess the following:

1. At least a Bachelor’s Degree (Research Assistant) from a recognised university in disciplines that include Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Social Policy, and Behavioral Economics. Candidates with a Master’s Degree may be considered for a Research Associate position;
2. An aptitude for and relevant experience in collaborative as well as independent applied social science research;
3. Excellent written and spoken communication skills;
4. Familiarity with Singapore’s social service sector.
