Job Description
Most of the world now live in cities. Liveable, sustainable and resilient cities are needed to face the looming challenges of climate change, the next pandemics, ageing populations and technological, social and economic disruptions such as what we are currently experiencing. Research is taking a systems approach tackling some of our biggest urban challenges, and in the process, gradually developing a Science of Cities.
NUS Cities is taking the lead to establish an Urban Observatory (UO) for Singapore. The UO will contribute to the build-up of Urban Science research by creating the foundational data and platform to enable knowledge production, and collaboration between the research community, public sector and private entities. The UO will a) foster cross-disciplinary collaboration into urban science research building on strong foundation in NUS faculty, b) create reliable and innovative computer models, foundational data and statistics for scientist, educators and practitioners, as well as to c) inform urban governance, policy and planning with insights and recommendations.
The successful candidate will :
- Contribute towards building a cloud-based Data & Services for the UO, and UO-related scoping and proposal preparation.
- Conceptualise and prototype a minimal viable product for the UO.
This includes:
- Assessment and recommendation of features based on product-demand fit.
- Key specifications & use cases for point a above.
- Meaningful stakeholder engagement models to promote collaboration and data sharing.
- Viable business model to sustain operations and maintenance of the UO.
- System architecture and roadmap to implement the UO.
The role is based in Singapore.
The adjunct appointment for this Senior Research Fellow position is for a contract period of 3 months with the possibility of renewal.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree
- At least 8 years’ postgraduate experience with evidence of making progress in his/her field of work
