Location: SPECIALTY RESEARCH INST/CTRS, Kent Ridge Campus, SG

Company: National University of Singapore

Job Summary

Cancer Science Institute of Singapore (CSI) is establishing a new research lab under the leadership of Dr. Zhou Yilong. The lab will focus on RNA biology, cancer, and immunity.

We are seeking a highly motivated, dedicated and detail-oriented Research Assistant to contribute to the lab's cutting-edge research on RNA-protein interactions, biomolecular condensates, and the role of RNA helicases in cancer.  In addition to research responsibilities, the Research Assistant will play a crucial role in commissioning the lab, setting up essential equipment, and ensuring operational readiness.

Duties and Responsibilities

Laboratory:

  • Assist in the design, execution, and analysis of experiments related to RNA and cell biology and immune response mechanisms.
  • Commission Dr. Zhou Yilong’s lab, including setting up research equipment, managing inventory, and ensuring all operational protocols are in place.
  • Perform RNA isolation, sequencing, and bioinformatic analyses to explore RNA sequence modifications and their implications for cancer and viral infections.
  • Support the development of tumor models to study RNA dynamics in cancer and infection diseases.
  • Apply molecular techniques, including new CRISPR/Cas9, iCLIP, and FANCI technology from the PI, to isolate and study RNA condensates like stress granules, P bodies and nuclear speckles.

Data Management & Analysis:

  • Maintain accurate records of experimental procedures, results, and data analysis for reports, publications, and presentations.
  • Assist in the preparation of research publications, reports, and presentations.

General Support:

  • Collaborate with other Translational Research Teams aimed at improving mRNA vaccines and developing RNA-based cancer therapies.
  • Present findings at lab meetings and scientific conferences.
  • Provide administrative support in grant applications, ethics board submissions, and meeting coordination.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Cancer Biology, or a related field.
  • Prior experience with lab setup, equipment management, or commissioning of research facilities.
  • Strong skills in molecular biology techniques (e.g., RNA isolation, PCR, cell culture, CRISPR).
  • Knowledge of RNA biology, cancer biology, or immunology is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with bioinformatics tools for RNA sequencing analysis is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with RNA helicases, biomolecular condensates, deep-sequencing and proteomic techniques.
  • Prior involvement in lab commissioning or management.
  • Familiarity with cancer models and translational research in RNA therapeutics in cell and animal level.
