STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

 

The Memory Aging & Cognition Centre (MACC) is a Research Center within the National University Health System funded by the Singapore National Medical Research Council that focuses on the study of dementia and cognitive impairment in the elderly. The MACC currently has 4 research themes on (i) neurochemistry, molecular pathology and biomarker discovery, (ii) neuroimaging, (iii) clinical assessment and (iv) epidemiology.

 

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant to join our team at the MACC. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in the daily operations and maintenance of the laboratory, as well as the handling of samples obtained from human or animal studies. The successful candidate will also have opportunities to work on various laboratory testing/techniques and contribute to the team's research effort in neurochemistry and blood biomarkers of Alzheimer's disease and vascular cognitive impairment.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Handle samples obtained from human (blood, plasma, serum, post-mortem brain tissues) or animal studies, including the proper processing, documentation, tracking, storage and retrieval of samples.

2.  Ensure compliance with laboratory safety protocols and regulatory requirements.

3. Manage and coordinate daily operations and maintenance of the laboratory, including administrative duties.

4. Support the PI and Research Fellows in experimental procedures related to neurochemistry and blood-based biomarkers research.

5. Assist the PI and Research Fellows in supervising and training students and junior researchers.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree in Biomedical or Life Sciences.
  2. Meticulous, attention to details, able to work independently, strong organization and documentation skills. 
  3. Previous work experience in the following area(s) is advantageous:
  • Handling human and/or animal specimens as well as biobanking
  • Neurochemistry laboratories, biomarker-related laboratories, pharmaceutical laboratories and/or research animal laboratories
  1. Knowledge of lab safety regulations/guidelines is desirable.

 

The candidate should possess the ability to work independently (with training) in a highly collaborative and international research environment, and be able to demonstrate initiative, technical independence and excellent communication skills. The successful candidate will be expected to be self-motivated in neurochemistry and biomarker research projects within the MACC under the supervision of the MACC Director, PIs and Research Fellows, as well as collaborators in NUHS and Duke-NUS.
