Job Description
A Lab Technician position is available in Professor Chng Wee Joo’s research group at the Cancer Science Institute of Singapore. This role will involve processing various types of patient samples, managing the sample inventory, and supporting animal work experiments. The successful candidate will play an essential role in the lab’s ongoing research in haematological malignancies, focusing on understanding the pathogenesis of cancers like multiple myeloma, acute myeloid leukemia, and NK/T-cell lymphoma.
Key Responsibilities:

Sample Processing:
- Process a range of patient samples, including bone marrow, peripheral blood, and buccal swabs, with accuracy and adherence to standard operating procedures.
- Prepare samples for downstream analyses such as genomics and proteomics studies to aid research into cancer biomarkers and therapeutic targets.

Inventory Management:
- Organize and maintain a detailed inventory of patient samples, ensuring proper labeling, storage, and tracking.
- Document and record all sample processing details accurately to contribute to research data integrity.

Animal Work Support:
- Assist in handling laboratory mice, including breeding, monitoring, and performing procedures such as blood collection and organ harvesting.
- Support researchers in setting up animal experiments that model cancer progression and response to treatments.

Lab Maintenance:
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized laboratory environment, following all safety protocols and biosafety guidelines.
- Ensure proper maintenance and calibration of lab equipment to support sample processing and animal work.

Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with researchers and other lab members, communicating effectively to ensure efficient sample flow and workflow.
- Contribute to team discussions by providing feedback on sample processing methods and laboratory procedures.
Qualifications
- Minimum Diploma in Life Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field.
- Previous experience in a laboratory setting is preferred, especially with sample processing and/or animal handling.
- Familiarity with laboratory procedures, including sample processing and inventory management.
- Knowledge of laboratory safety protocols and biosafety practices.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills to handle high volumes of samples accurately.
- Effective communication skills and a collaborative team approach.
Desirable Attributes:
- Experience working with cancer research samples or models.
- Interest in cancer biology and translational research.
- Ability to adapt in a dynamic research environment and support multiple projects.
