Duke-NUS Medical School (Duke-NUS) was established through a landmark collaboration between two world-class institutions; Duke University and National University of Singapore, with the objective of providing innovative education and impactful research that enhance the practice of medicine in Singapore and beyond.
The Animal Biosafety Level 3 laboratory (ABSL3) is a core facility of Duke-NUS Medical School that supports infectious disease research. It is located in the National Large Animal Facility at Tuas.
We are seeking a Laboratory Technologist/ Executive to join a team of researchers and operational staff working at the ABSL3 facility. The successful candidate will engage in the daily operations and compliance matters of Duke-NUS Biosafety Level 3 and support the BSL2 laboratories based in Tuas, including but not limited to the following
Job Responsibilities:
- Ensure smooth operations and compliance, including daily operational and routine checks of the ABSL3 and BSL2 laboratories.
- Responsible for the purchasing of goods and services required for the facility’s operation.
- Assist in training programme of laboratory personnel for working in the ABSL3 laboratories.
- Ensure all personnel working in high containment facilities meet minimum training criteria as established by university policy and regulations.
- Work with animal handling and laboratory staff to ensure facilities adhere to safety standards and are prepared for inspections and certification.
- Provide administrative support and documents organisation for the ABSL3 and BSL2 laboratories.
- Provide routine status reports to the Safety Department and Research Operations Department.
- Coordinate and provide assistance with decontaminating of laboratories for annual laboratory maintenance, repair/replacement of equipment and certification of ABSL3 facility.
- Ensure compliance with applicable local regulations (e.g. MOH, NEA etc.) pertaining to use of hazardous materials, infectious agents, and operation of ABSL3 and BSL2 laboratories.
- Perform other Ad Hoc related duties as assigned for the operation of the facility.
Qualifications
- Degree in Biomedical/Science related disciplines.
- Entry-level candidates or Diploma holders with at least 5 years of relevant experience in biomedical industry may also be considered.
- Possess effective oral and written communication skills.
- Meticulous, well-organised with excellent data and document management ability.
- Prior work experience in an animal BSL3 laboratory and understanding of regulatory requirements (e.g. BATA, NACLAR) and/or safety standards would be advantageous.
- Able to multi-task and establish effective working relationships with facility users and other colleagues.
- Committed to ongoing learning and professional development.
- Willing to learn and able to follow strict safety protocols and guidelines.
- The primary work location is Tuas (with transportation provided). Occasional duties may be required at the Duke-NUS campus in Outram.
