Job Description
The Centre on Asia and Globalisation (CAG), at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (LKYSPP), National University of Singapore (NUS), invites applications for a Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship in the field of International Relations, with a focus on Bay of Bengal/ Indo-Pacific Studies.
The Lee Kuan Yew School is a leading school of public policy with an international faculty and student body. CAG was established in 2006 to provide accurate, independent, and high-quality analysis on issues of regional and global significance for academia, decision-makers, commentators, and the general public. Its current research agenda focuses on the prospects of regional and global order; the future of economic globalisation/de-globalisation and their impact on Asia; the alignment postures of Southeast Asia in an era of superpower competition; and the impact of technology and artificial intelligence on international politics (https://lkyspp.nus.edu.sg/cag).
The Postdoctoral Fellow will conduct independent, in-depth, and publishable research on issues related to the Bay of Bengal or Indo-Pacific region and contribute to the Centre’s work on conducting in-depth research on developments in Asia.
The Fellow would be expected to produce either (i) an original monograph of 30,000 words or (ii) two reports or journal articles during their stay. In addition, s/he would be expected to write at least one op-ed for a leading regional newspaper and a short think-piece for the Centre’s publications.
We envisage the Fellow as participating actively in the Centre’s various activities and being a presence in the intellectual life of the School. The Fellow will deliver one public talk on her/his research and reach out to the policy and think tank community of Singapore.
Requirements
- A Ph.D. degree in the social sciences with preference for Political Science/International Relations.
- Expertise in issues pertinent to the Bay of Bengal/ Indo-Pacific region.
- An ability to engage with policy and research communities in Singapore, Asia, and around the world.
- A strong and demonstrated sense of academic independence and collegiality.
- A willingness to engage in interdisciplinary interactions at the LKYSPP
