Job Description

The Civic Tech Lab at the Department of Communications and New Media, National University of Singapore, invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow position. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Professor Weiyu Zhang on projects exploring civic technologies aimed at facilitating citizen deliberation and engagement. Specifically, the Fellow will contribute to research focusing on the use of reflective nudges, human-computer interaction (HCI), and AI-driven deliberation platforms to foster thoughtful civic discourse.

 

Responsibilities

  • Conduct innovative research on enhancing online deliberation platforms using AI platforms and HCI methodologies.
  • Design, develop, and evaluate user-centered digital platforms aimed at promoting civic deliberation on topics like online harmful content.
  • Engage in qualitative and quantitative research, including user studies, usability testing, thematic analysis, and experimental designs.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to integrate insights from HCI, computational social science, policy studies, and communication research.
  • Publish findings in top-tier international journals and conferences in the fields of HCI, communication, and computational social science.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Information Systems Technology and Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Communication, or related fields.
  • Proven research record with publications in reputable conferences and journals (e.g., CHI, CSCW).
  • Strong methodological skills in qualitative (e.g., ATLAS.ti) and quantitative (e.g., R, Stata) research techniques.
  • Proficiency in coding languages such as Python and prototyping platforms such as Figma.
  • Familiarity with user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) design principles.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
