Job Description

The Sustainability and Resilience research community in NUS spans diverse disciplines across the College of Design and Engineering, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences, Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, NUS Business School, NUS Law, Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, School of Computing, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, and other schools, faculties and research institutes. Successful candidates may be offered joint appointments across departments to foster collaborative and interdisciplinary research.

We seek talented and passionate candidates to shape the future of sustainability research and education in NUS. The successful candidates will be world-leading experts in sustainability domains including but not limited to the following.

  • Energy systems: sustainable maritime and aviation solutions; smart/ multi-energy grid systems; cooling solutions for built environment, industry and data centres; energy system modelling, management and predictive analytics; green computing; decarbonization and carbon dioxide removal technologies
  • Nature and climate: climate modelling and projections across spatio-temporal scales; meteorology, compound extreme weather events and early warning systems; nature-based solutions, including wetland conservation and restoration; oceanography and marine science; water resource management; climate-smart agriculture and food security; planetary and human health; social, economic and political dimensions of climate change
  • Urban sustainability: climate-Informed urban planning and building design; AI and data-driven climate risk assessment; resilient transit and mobility systems; participatory urban governance and engagement; social equity and environmental justice; environmental economics; urban health and climate change; climate finance and green investment

Qualifications

Requirements

Candidates should have a PhD degree and postdoctoral experience in the following or related disciplines: civil engineering, environmental engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical and computer engineering, artificial intelligence and data science, transportation engineering, materials engineering, industrial system engineering, building technology, atmospheric science, climate science, meteorology, earth systems science, environmental physics, natural resource management, conservation science, marine biology, sustainability science, oceanography, geography, climate policy, sociology, political science, urban planning, sustainable development, or environmental economics.

Demonstrated abilities to develop and secure internationally recognized, externally funded and multidisciplinary research programmes will be highly desired. Faculty members are expected to conduct cutting-edge research, teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses, and proactively engage with government, industry and civil society on sustainability and climate issues.
