Job Description
The successful candidate will work with Assistant Professor Andrea Phua’s lab on a range of projects, primarily “ Investigating a transcriptional role of primary cilia in striatal neural computation mediating cognitive flexibility”.
The main responsibilities of the position include:
- Performing confocal fluorescence microscopy experiments
- Conducting computational image processing and analyses
- Establishing and executing technical workflows for brain tissue processing in visualizing spatial protein and gene localization
Qualifications
The candidate should hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Bioengineering, Biomedical engineering, Biochemical Engineering or a related field.
Skills:
- Strong interest in neuroscience research, with motivation to pursue further academic training in the field
- Excellent time and resource management skills
- Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to work well with interdisciplinary colleagues
Experience:
- Demonstrated track record in confocal fluorescence microscopy and associated super-resolution techniques
- Proficient in image processing techniques (e.g. deconvolution, denoising) to enhance image resolution and quality for visualization and quantification
- Experience in implementing machine learning techniques for automated detection and quantification of events in microscopy images is required
- Familiarity with immunofluorescence and RNA-FISH techniques
- A good foundation in biostatistics, with the ability to apply statistical methods to analyze experimental data will be necessary
- Some experience in microfluidic device fabrication will be a plus
