Job Description
The NUS Centre for Nature-based Climate Solutions (CNCS) is looking for a Research Assistant to support ongoing nature-based solutions projects, with a particular focus on our urban restoration and Microforest programmes. The research assistant will have genuine ownership over how projects run and where they go next, contributing ideas that shape research design and scientific direction.
The research assistant will work across the full project lifecycle: from coordinating field and research activities to co-authoring publications and reports. They will also provide cross-programme support across CNCS's broader portfolio of nature-based climate initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Lead day-to-day coordination of the urban microforest programme, keeping timelines, deliverables, and stakeholders on track
- Contribute actively to the research design and scientific direction of microforest and related NBS projects
- Co-author and contribute to scientific papers, technical reports, and knowledge outputs
- Conduct spatial and quantitative analysis using GIS tools and R
- Bring fresh, creative ideas to strengthen and advance our microforest research agenda
- Support other projects across the centre as needed
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Geography or a related field.
Experience
- Prior experience with GIS platforms and other data visualisation tools is a plus
- Prior exposure to nature-based solutions, urban ecology or climate science is a plus
Skills
- Strong foundation in data analysis using R
- Strong organisational instincts – able to keep track of moving parts and flag risks early
- Creative, ideas-driven mindset with the ability to think critically about research problems
- Comfortable working independently and taking initiative in a lean team environment
- Strong written communication skills for academic and professional outputs
