Job Description
The National University of Singapore invites applications for Research Assistant for the project “Spiral microfluidic-enriched zonal chondrocytes for improved strategy of autologous chondrocyte implantation with stratified zonal chondrocytes delivery” in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. Appointments will be made on a 1 year contract basis. The Department is actively engaged in cutting edge research that encompasses basic science research, translational research and clinical applications of new technologies. We have a very strong research culture with emphasis on translating our findings from the laboratory bench to the clinical bedside in the form of finding and developing novel and useful therapies. Over the years, we have built a reputation for quality research in the areas of tissue engineering, osteoporosis and fractures, and orthopaedic bioengineering.
Project Overview
This project aims to develop a cell-sorting platform using a microfluidic chip with a strong translational angle. The microfluidic device will be developed, optimized for more efficient cell sorting and for single-use. The platform developed will enable enhanced manufacturing of cells for cartilage repair and this project will accelerate the platform from bench to bedside.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
The job responsibilities include:
- Develop a prototype to cells from microfluidic chip.
- Characterise sorted cells and optimise the chip based on desired target product profile of sorted cells.
- Develop the microfluidic chip with end-user testing and use of clinical samples in mind.
- Support translational and/or entrepreneurial R&D efforts
Qualifications
The applicant should:
- have a degree in Bioengineering/Electrical/Mechanical Engineering;
- have experience and competencies in:
Adherent cell culture production and maintenance
Matlab and/or Python proficiency for data processing
Microfluidic design and fabrication
You will also be working with scientists, engineers, clinicians, with opportunity to gain exposure to real-world innovation and entrepreneurial experiences to develop the bench-to-biotechnology prototype. We are interested to hire an applicant who is:
