We are seeking a full-time Research Assistant (Environmental Noise) for a 12-month appointment, which may be renewed.

The primary objective of this research initiative is to investigate and forecast the physical and psychological impacts of greenery on noise reduction. This study aims to yield valuable insights into noise mapping techniques, the psychological effects of greenery, and the prediction of noise annoyance, thereby informing policy-making related to the development of healthier urban environments.

The proposed research project encompasses a range of interdisciplinary challenges, including social sciences, architecture, and engineering, addressing issues from landscape and urban planning to the integration of technology, human perception, and scientific analysis. The Research Assistant will be responsible for conducting simulations, field measurements, data analysis, as well as laboratory and field testing throughout the duration of the project.
 

Qualifications

•    Professional requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s (preferably Master’s) Degree in Architecture, Urban Planning, Mechanical Engineering (preferred with training in Architectural acoustics or Environmental Noise) or related discipline.
  • Demonstrated knowledge related to acoustic modelling, noise mapping and measurement.
  • Demonstrated data analytic skills, ideally with machine learning.

•    Other general requirements:

  • Demonstrated ability to undertake high quality academic research with limited supervision.
  • Good academic writing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
  • Evidence of highly developed interpersonal skills.
