Purpose of the post
The National University of Singapore invites applications for a Research Assistant/Associate position for the project entitled “Methylation and Alternative Therapies for Urological Cancers” in the Department of Surgery (Urology), Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. Appointments will be made on a 1-year contract basis with the possibility of extension based on performance.
The Research Assistant (RA) will work closely with the Principal Investigator and study team members to ensure the successful completion of the research project. The RA’s principal role will be to perform animal and lab-based experiments.
Job Description
The Research Assistant will be accountable to the Principle Investigator (PI). The RA will be able to:
(1) Carry out research work which involves handling laboratory animals, and performing animal studies, as well as in vitro cell line studies
(2) Plan and perform experiments as instructed by the PI,
(3) Document research work, collect, analyze, and interpret data,
(4) Review the literature on the research topic,
(5) Present data during monthly internal meetings or conferences,
(6) Assist in generating progress reports for regular progress updates to grant body,
(7) Assist in administrative procurement processes, which include sourcing for vendors and liaising with vendors to request quotations, etc.
(8) Assist in laboratory safety and management,
(9) Assist with any other duties of a similar nature that are delegated by the PI
Qualifications
The applicant should:
(a) Have a BSc. or MSc with good results;
(b) Be able to work independently and in a team, have an investigative nature, and attention to detail;
(c) Have knowledge of computer applications, e.g. SPSS, GraphPad, MS office, FlowJo, and
(d) Have a good command of English, and good written and verbal communication skills
(e) Previous lab experience with molecular biology skills is essential, as well as experience with working with animals (mice)
(f) Ability to effectively and efficiently handle multiple tasks simultaneously
(g) Strong organizational skills and aptitude for detail
