The Centre for Ageing Research and Education (CARE) is an academic research centre based in Duke-NUS Medical School. Drawing on its interdisciplinary expertise and collaborations across medical, social, psychological, economic and environmental perspectives, CARE conducts leading-edge research on the medical and social determinants of successful ageing. 

 

CARE is a vibrant workplace with individuals from diverse academic and personal backgrounds and with a range of interests.  We have an opening for a Research Assistant or Research Associate with interest and background in qualitative research. The role and responsibilities of this position will include but not limited to the following: 

  • Work with the qualitative team at CARE to assist with the design and implementation of new studies/ programmes.
  • Work on current studies investigating these core research themes: Social Inclusion/ Engagement across the Life-Course, Healthy Ageing and Preventive Health, Family Caregiving.
  • Support project management tasks, including questionnaire development, managing project documentation, preparing reports, and coordinating with survey research firms and other agencies.
  • Assist with CARE’s other initiatives where required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in social sciences such as but not restricted to Sociology/ Anthropology, Social Work, or Public Health for Research Assistant position or Master’s Degree or equivalent for Research Associate position.
  • Applicants without academic research experience: At least 3 years of work experience in non-research sector that demonstrates candidate’s interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and in a team, manage projects, analyse data, write reports and communicate effectively. 
  • Applicants with academic research experience: At least 1 year of qualitative research experience (e.g., participatory action research, ethnographic research, evaluation research, culture-centred approach) which demonstrates candidate’s ability to work with a qualitative research team, and conduct fieldwork in local settings with people from different walks of life.
  • Demonstrate strong interest and inclination to interact and engage with older persons in the community, and bilingual in both English and non-English languages (e.g. Mandarin, Chinese Dialects, Malay, Tamil, etc).
  • Demonstrate ethical consideration, sensitivity and competency in working with older adults and/or vulnerable populations
  • Demonstrate an understanding of local ageing, policy and/or health contexts
  • Interest in conducting both evaluation and exploratory research that impact policies and programmes relevant to population ageing
  • Understanding importance of enhancing qualitative research capabilities in the age/healthcare sector
  • Experience in using NVIVO 11/12 qualitative analysis software or any other equivalent qualitative data software.
