Job Description
The Experimental Marine Ecology Laboratory (EMEL) within the Department of Biological Sciences at the National University of Singapore is seeking to appoint a Research Associate to work on the project “Shore Protection with Integrated Nature-based Solutions—Meta (“SPINS-Meta”). This proposal aims to model and assess potential hybrid solutions that can be implemented for coastal protection in Singapore.
The main responsibilities of the position include:
- Develop a systematic understanding of hybrid solutions that have been implemented or tested in the tropics/subtropic
- Develop a typology of green-grey hybrid solutions and model/map their suitability along Singapore’s shoreline
- Generate a map of existing coastal protection structures in Singapore, and identify potential integration sites for hybrid solution
- Assist in administrative work to support the project
- Coordinate with sister project
- Prepare research manuscripts, reports, and presentations
Qualifications
Master's Degree in GIS, marine biology, ecology, geography, environmental studies, or other similar discipline.
Experience:
- Geospatial mapping and modelling techniques (e.g. ArcGIS, QGIS, R
- Statistical computing and data visualisation tools
- Familiarity with nature-based solutions/ecological engineering
- Evidence of published research would be preferred
Skills:
- High level of expertise in GIS and data visualisation
- Proven ability to efficiently manage and process large datasets
- Highly organized and proactive
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills, including attention to details
- Excellent time and resource management
- Highly self-motivated, excellent communicator and a team playe
- Demonstrated ability to work independently
- Willing to work flexible hours and take on extra duties as required
- Strong written and interpersonal communication skills
