Job Description
Job Title:  Research Engineer (Cardiac Patch Bio-printing)
Posting Start Date:  03/03/2026

Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Engineer with a strong passion for medical research to lead the development of a next-generation bio-printed cardiac patch platform. This role sits at the intersection of biomaterials science, bioprinting process engineering, tissue maturation, and functional testing, with the goal of translating early-stage concepts into robust, reproducible workflows suitable for preclinical evaluation and future scale-up.

The successful candidate will design and execute systematic experimental programs to optimize print fidelity, structural integrity, and biological performance. Responsibilities include planning and conducting structured parameter sweeps and Design of Experiments (DoE) studies across bioink formulations, printing parameters, crosslinking strategies, and culture conditions. The role also involves defining clear, practical acceptance criteria—such as geometric accuracy, batch-to-batch consistency, cell viability thresholds, and mechanical robustness—and translating findings into standardized operating procedures (SOPs) and quality control (QC) protocols to ensure repeatability and transferability of the process.

In addition, the Research Engineer will formulate and characterize hydrogel and composite bioinks with a focus on printability and functional performance. This includes performing rheological and mechanical testing, assessing material stability, and ensuring sterility and aseptic compatibility for routine laboratory and preclinical use.

Qualifications

•    Possess at least a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering related or equivalent. Master’s holder preferred.
•    Strong written and spoken communication skills.
•    Can work independently or as a team Player.
•    Has prior experience and expertise in performing bio-printing work, cell culture, biomaterials characterisation and Immunohistochemistry.
•    Open to fixed-term contract.
