Job Description
The Experimental Marine Ecology Laboratory (EMEL) within the Department of Biological Sciences at the National University of Singapore is seeking to appoint an exceptional candidate to the position of Postdoctoral Research Fellow to work on a major new project “Multifunctional and Adaptive Green-Grey Shorelines (MAGGShore)”. This interdisciplinary research aims to test strategies to enhance the ecological functioning of artificial shorelines.
The main responsibilities of the position include:
- Examine ecological processes on seawalls at multiple scales
- Identify suitable species and protocols for transplantation
- Develop and test new enhancement unit designs
- Coordinate with sister sub-projects
- Prepare research manuscripts, reports and presentations
- Mentor graduate and undergraduate students
Applicants should have completed a PhD in marine biology or ecology.They should have a history of publications consummate with their career stage. Research skills including leadership, excellent statistical and analytical skills, outstanding writing abilities, and the capacity to work within a diverse group of ecologists and marine scientists, are desirable. Candidates with experience in hard intertidal systems, ecological engineering, and nature-based solutions will be given priority.
Qualifications
PhD in Marine Biology or Ecology
Skills:
- Experimental design and analysis (including expertise in R)
- Strong written and interpersonal communication skills
- Excellent time and resource management
- Certified and experienced scuba divers would be preferred
Experience:
- Ability to conduct experimental work in field, lab, and aquaria
- Experience working with intertidal invertebrates
- Familiarity with nature-based solutions/ecological engineering
- Publication record consummate with career stage
