The National University of Singapore (NUS) is recruiting a full-time Research Fellow at the ADVANcing Clinical Evidence in Infectious Diseases (ADVANCE-ID) Network, Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health (SSHSPH). Founded in 1905, NUS is consistently ranked among the world's top 30 universities and Asia's top 2 universities. It is an innovative, research-intensive university with over 36,000 students from 100 countries. ADVANCE-ID is a global network for infectious disease clinical studies. Our aim is to conduct rapid, cost-effective randomised controlled trials to deliver relevant and high-quality evidence to guide clinical practice. We hope to achieve this vision through equity (shared ownership), sustainability (build long-term capacity and trust) and engagement of key stakeholders (including clinicians, scientists, governments, industry).

 

The Research Fellow will play a critical role in a program that aims to develop and evaluate community engagement strategies to enhance public support for clinical trials establish regional hubs for ongoing engagement and create scalable frameworks and tools. The Research Fellow will conduct and disseminate research on risk communication, public perceptions and attitudes, and community engagement in clinical trial settings in Asia.

 

Job scope:

  • To work with the lead investigator on collaborative and international research with partner organisations nationally and globally (including NGOs, industry, hospitalsand other research and academic institutions).
  • Design and conduct quantitative, qualitative and behavioural research; analyse,interpret, and compile data for both presentations and scholarly outputs.
  • Prepare and coordinate research ethics protocols.
  • Contribute to preparation and writing of research manuscripts and conference abstracts/posters.
  • Assist in developing and submitting research grant proposals.
  • Support the dissemination of research outcomes through appropriate channels and outlets including guidelines and policy recommendations.
  • Be involved in capacity building in the region by supporting workshops and relevant training activities
  • Assist with the supervision of research students, interns and research assistants where required.

 

Requirements and selection criteria:

  • Demonstrated experience in designing and conducting social or behavioural research with human subjects.
  • High level research and data analytic capability in quantitative and/or qualitative research.
  • Proficient in one or more of the following software: NVivo, R, SPSS, Stata, SAS.
  • Experience in publishing in peer-reviewed international journals.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills in English, as the candidate will be required to write scientific papers for publication in international peer reviewed journals and present work undertaken to a technical audience.
  • Highly organized and able to work effectively independently as well as with a team.

 

The following requirements will be considered as an advantage:

  • Research experience in one or more of the following:
    • Community/patient engagement in health/clinical research
    • Risk communication in health/clinical settings
    • Shared decision making among culturally and linguistically diverse patients
    • Field experience in Asia

Qualifications

PhD Degree in a relevant subject area including Psychology/Behavioural Sciences,Health/Clinical Sciences, Implementation Sciences, or equivalent.
