Job Description
The Research Office at the Faculty of Law, National University of Singapore, is inviting applications from suitable candidates in the field of International Arbitration Law to carry out research relevant to a project “The Makings of International Arbitration: A Theoretical and Doctrinal Account of the Evolution and Current Status of International Arbitration Law”.
The areas of legal study in which we are active or we seek to establish programmes are:
i) International Arbitration
ii) The Rule of Law
iii) Decision Making
iv) Intellectual history of international arbitration.
Appointments would need to have legal background with strong arbitration knowledge will be seriously considered.
Duties
• Subject to the standard NUS terms as to annual leave, appointed candidates will be expected to be in residence throughout the term of their appointments.
• Support the project and the work of the Chair by:
a. Assisting in literature review
b. Reviewing and analysing empirical data already collected for the project (see element (ii) of the project below)
c. Contributing to / co-authoring articles and other outputs from the project
d. Assisting in the organisation of conferences and roundtable discussions that will be held to discuss preliminary findings of research
e. Assisting in the dissemination of the findings of the project
• Develop, pursue and publish his/her own research projects
a. The post-holder will be given sufficient time to develop their own research projects (after discussions with the Chair)
Requirements
1. An ideal candidate would be of exceptional calibre, have attained a PhD in a relevant area of law.
2. The principal selection criterion will be the applicant’s potential for excellence in research.
3. The candidate should be exceptionally organized and have an eye for detail. In addition there will also be administrative responsibilities related to the work. A strong command of the English language is required.
