Job Description

The Signature Research Programme in Emerging Infectious Diseases (EID) aims to pioneer the development and discovery of new and more effective methods for the treatment, prevention and control of new and emerging pathogens. The key outcome of the research will be the early identification of new pathogens, out of which new diagnostic tests, treatments and control strategies will be developed.
 
We are looking for a talented Research Fellow to study the short and long term outcomes of the host transcriptional/epigenetic response to respiratory viral infection. The selected candidate will perform a variety of research activities, which include planning, organising and conducting research studies within the overall scope of a research project under the supervision of the Principal Investigator or his/her designate, including but not limited to the following: 
 

  • Independently carry out the design and execution of innovative research aimed at understanding the host epigenome/transcriptome during Influenza A viral infection. 
  • Collaborate with team members on related projects in the laboratory.
  • Write and review research papers, present research outcomes, conceptualise new ideas and develop plans for research that could have a considerable influence and impact on the relevant field.
  • Provide support for external grant and protocol development, study design and management of research activities.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to undergraduate / medical students and research assistants.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described therein.

Job Requirements

  • PhD in Molecular Biology, Virology, Genetics, Immunology, Stem Cell Biology or other related biomedical fields.
  • Prior experience with bioinformatics, biostatistics, next generation sequencing technologies and/or stem cell biology would be advantageous.
  • Experience with animal work (rodents) would also be an advantage. 
  • Demonstrate excellent quantitative, analytical and organisational skills.
  • Possess interpersonal communications skills with excellent written and oral communications.
  • A strong team player who is open-minded, independent, highly motivated and can work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team and diverse workforce.
