Job Description

This position is for a full-time Research Fellow in the Coronavirus Lab led by Assistant Professor Mart Lamers in The Signature Research Programme in Emerging Infectious Diseases (EID). Our team uses cutting-edge technology (e.g. organoids, CRISPR, and single cell omics) to understand coronavirus-host interactions relevant to pandemic potential and pathogenesis. 
 

We welcome applications from candidates with a strong background in Virology, Immunology, Cell Biology or Stem Cell Biology. The candidate is expected to play a critical role in generating and fostering a cutting-edge, interdisciplinary research environment by performing a variety of research under the supervision of the Principal Investigator or his/her designate. The main duties and responsibilities will include but not limited to the following: 
 

  • Independently carry out the design and execution of high precision in vitro experiments related to coronavirus biology and (immuno)pathogenesis.
  • Interface and network with clinical counterparts and team members to achieve the goals of the project.
  • Write and review research papers, present research outcomes, conceptualise new ideas and develop plans for research that could have a considerable influence and impact on the relevant field.
  • Provide support for external grant and protocol development, study design and management of research activities.
  • Demonstrate and present research output.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to graduate students and research assistants.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described therein.

Job Requirements

  • PhD in Immunology, Vaccinology, Virology, Cell Biology, or Stem Cell Biology or a related biomedical field.
  • Willing to be trained to work in a biosafety level 3 containment laboratory. Prior BSL-3 experience would be advantageous.
  • Prior experience in immunology, gene editing, stem cell biology, or bioinformatics would be advantageous.
  • Possess excellent quantitative, analytical and organisational skills.
  • A strong team player who is open-minded, energetic, highly motivated and can work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team and diverse workforce.
