Job Description

This position is related to the design, simulation, and fabrication of chip-based optoelectronic devices primarily with lithium niobate and barium titanate, but other related nonlinear optical materials may be possible.

The candidate will need to help supervise Ph.D. students in a lab environment, assist with authoring and correcting scientific manuscripts in high-impact journals, and guiding students as they prepare for attending conferences.

Qualifications

•    Ph.D. in a related field.
•    Experience in building optical setups (for example, selecting and buying Thorlabs components for an optical table) and characterizing optical components in terms of physical parameters like polarization, optical loss, speed, mode profile, etc., is essential, along with a background in simulating structures using FDTD or Comsol to understand the underlying physics of various structures.

•    Desirable, but not essential, would be cleanroom fabrication experience including etching, metallization, deposition, and lithography.

•    Prior experience in doing high speed measurements using a vector network analyser is also desirable but not essential, provided that the candidate is willing to learn.

•    A thorough and deep existing understanding of optics and optoelectronics is required.

•    A willingness help others in their research goals and facilitate the overall exchange of information within the lab is also important.

•    Open to Fixed Term Contract.
