Job Description
The successful candidate will work in the laboratory of Dr. Alexander Vinogradov (NUS Presidential Young Professor; lab website: https://vinogradov.science) on characterizing novel biosynthetic enzymes and utilizing them for drug discovery applications. Broadly, the project is dedicated to developing an mRNA display-based platform for ultra-high-throughput analysis of post-translational modification enzymes.
The main responsibilities of the position include:
• Design and conduct experiments in biochemistry (enzymology), mRNA display, and peptide chemistry
• Analyze experimental data, including using deep learning techniques (optional)
• Prepare research findings for publication in peer-reviewed journals and presentation at international conferences
• Present oral research updates in group meetings and prepare periodic written updates
• Contribute to the setup and maintenance of laboratory equipment
Qualifications
Prospective candidates should have a strong interest and demonstratable expertise (a PhD degree supported by peer-reviewed publications) in at least one of the following areas: biochemistry, enzymology, combinatorial chemistry, deep learning, drug discovery, mRNA display, and bioorganic chemistry.
Skills:
• Expertise in basic biochemical techniques (protein expression and purification, nucleic acid work, PCR, PAGE, etc); expertise in synthetic organic chemistry is not required but will be considered an asset.
• Strong knowledge of fundamental biochemistry, enzymology, chemical kinetics is not required but will be considered an asset.
• Understanding of combinatorial chemistry concepts is not required but will be considered an asset.
• Expertise in mRNA display or other genetically encoded combinatorial methods (yeast display, phage display, DELs) is not required but will be considered an asset.
• Background in natural product research is not required but will be considered an asset.
• Familiarity with analytical and biophysical techniques (LC/MS, HPLC, UV-Vis spectroscopy, etc).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
Experience:
Candidates with at least 5 years’ experience in primary research and finishing their PhD will be preferred.
