Job Description

The Kappei Lab at the Cancer Science Institute of Singapore focuses on uncovering the intricate mechanisms of nucleic acid-protein interactions, utilizing state-of-the-art techniques in quantitative mass spectrometry, cell biology, and genetics. Our research aims to unravel how RNA loops (R-loops) impact genome stability and gene expression, with significant implications for understanding cancer biology. We are seeking a highly motivated Research Fellow to join our dynamic team and drive an exciting project at the forefront of cancer research. The successful candidate will utilize advanced experimental and computational approaches to explore the roles of R-loops in regulating chromatin and transcriptional dynamics.

  • Research Leadership:

    • Design, execute, and optimize experiments focusing on nucleic acid-protein interactions and their role in genome stability and gene expression.
    • Employ techniques such as chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP), mass spectrometry-based interactomics, and bioinformatics analyses.
  • Data Analysis and Interpretation:

    • Conduct extensive computational data analyses using tools and programming languages like Python or R.
    • Integrate experimental and bioinformatics findings to generate insights and hypotheses.
  • Collaboration and Mentorship:

    • Work collaboratively with lab members and external collaborators, contributing to a team-oriented research environment.
    • Mentor junior researchers and students in experimental and analytical techniques.
  • Scholarly Dissemination:

    • Prepare high-quality manuscripts and contribute to publishing research findings in leading scientific journals.
    • Present research outcomes at international conferences, seminars, and internal meetings.

Qualifications

  • Academic Background:

    • PhD in life sciences, medicine, molecular biology, or a related discipline.
  • Technical Expertise:

    • Proven hands-on experience with molecular and cell biology techniques, including ChIP and gene expression analysis.
    • Expertise in interactomics or quantitative mass spectrometry is highly desirable.
  • Computational Skills:

    • Strong experience with bioinformatics tools and pipelines for data analysis.
    • Proficiency in coding with Python or R is essential.
  • Skills and Attributes:

    • Exceptional organizational and analytical skills, with the ability to independently manage complex datasets and experiments.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
    • Collaborative mindset with a positive team spirit and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment.
