Job Description
The incumbent will serve as the Safety & Health Programme Manager, overseeing hazard areas including:
- Ionising Radiation and Non-Ionising Radiation Safety & Health Programme and
- Physical Safety Programme (eg Noise hazards)
Assume the role of an advisor to provide Safety & Health advisories to management to assist in implementing and managing safety systems in NUS faculties/schools, departments and research institutes.
- Establish, implement and maintain the Radiation Safety Programme and Radiation Safety Best Practices in NUS.
- Provide advice to management, staff and students on workplace safety & health issues, in particular related to laboratories, workshops and building core facilities in faculties/ schools, departments and research institutes.
- Develop and conduct safety & health training for staff and students.
- Conduct audits and inspections of workplaces, in particular laboratories, workshops, offices, and building core facilities, such as radiation monitoring and contamination checks.
- Develop, implement and manage new/ existing safety & health projects and programmes.
- Develop safety & health related technical manuals and standard operating procedures.
- Monitor and ensure compliance to applicable University's safety and health policies, procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Provide advice on application / renewal of licenses and liaise with the relevant authority for license/ permit issues.
- Lead investigations for accidents and incidents in the laboratory / workshop / building core facilities, especially incidents involving radiation.
- Facilitate safety & health promotional activities and events at the Faculty/ Department/ Research institutes.
- Advisor to secretariat for Faculty/ Department/ Research institute's safety & health committee.
- Be a Risk Advocate to communicate on Enterprise Risk Management to the management of Faculty/ Department/Research Institutes where required.
Qualifications
- Degree in Engineering, Science or Biomedical discipline.
- At least 5 years of working experience in establishing and managing workplace safety and health management system and projects/ programmes in research, manufacturing and/ or biomedical organisations.
- Registered workplace safety and health officer or equivalent will be an added advantage.
- Auditing experience based on ISO45001/ OHSAS18001 will be an added advantage.
- Effective communication and technical writing skills.
- Experience in managing and implementing Ionising Radiation and Non-ionising Radiation Safety Programme in an education or healthcare institution is preferred
