Job Description
The Public Communications & Education team supports SNRSI's mission to be a credible, objective pillar for public engagement and education on nuclear safety and technical issues. As part of our dynamic team, you will have many opportunities to reimagine how nuclear science is brought to life — finding creative, unexpected ways to spark curiosity and build understanding across diverse audiences and contexts, from classrooms to community spaces, from digital platforms to public festivals.
Responsibilities
- Develop and manage partnerships with a diverse range of institutions and organisations — including educational institutions, cultural bodies, industry associations, youth groups, and international science organisations — to broaden SNRSI's public engagement reach
- Design and deliver public science engagement programmes and activations across a wide range of contexts and venues, including schools, community organisations, science centres, museums, libraries, festivals, and public events
- Translate complex nuclear and scientific concepts into accessible, engaging experiences tailored to different audiences, contexts, and formats — adapting content fluidly whether for a primary school workshop, a public exhibition, a community roadshow, or a digital platform
- Conceptualise and develop content for interactive exhibitions, immersive installations, and innovative public-facing activations that invite curiosity and participation from varied audiences
- Explore and develop curriculum-linked resources and programmes in partnership with schools and institutes of higher learning (IHLs), including guest lectures, research collaborations, and science communication initiatives
- Identify and pilot innovative engagement formats — including gamification, hands-on demonstrations, storytelling, digital interactives, and experiential learning — that bring nuclear science to new and broader audiences
- Develop partnerships with media, content platforms, broadcasters, and online learning ecosystems to extend the reach of SNRSI's public education content beyond traditional channels
- Engage youth beyond formal education settings through youth organisations, interest groups, hackathons, and community initiatives
- Track and evaluate engagement effectiveness through participation data, feedback, and outcome measures, producing reports and recommendations for continuous improvement
- Participate in cross-team communications and engagement projects
The level of the position will be commensurate with the candidate’s relevant years of experience.
Qualifications
- Creative and curious thinker with a strong ability to translate complex scientific ideas into compelling, accessible experiences for varied audiences and contexts
- Experience in public engagement, science communication, informal education, or a related field — with a track record of designing programmes or activations that reach beyond traditional settings
- Strong partnership development and relationship management skills, with experience working across diverse institutional and community stakeholders
- Comfortable working across formats and contexts — equally at ease developing a school workshop, a festival activation, or a digital engagement initiative
- Strong project management skills with ability to coordinate multiple programmes and partners simultaneously
- Experience developing educational or interpretive content — whether curriculum materials, exhibition text, digital content, or facilitated activities — will be an advantage
- Familiarity with the higher education landscape and experience engaging IHLs, research institutions, or professional communities will be an advantage
- Exposure to exhibition design, interactive media, experiential marketing, or informal learning environments will be an advantage
- Background or training in science communication, science education, or a related STEM field is preferred
- Familiarity with nuclear energy issues or safety frameworks will be an advantage
