Job Description

The purpose of this role is to support population health and biomedical research by carrying out high-quality data collection, laboratory experiments, and imaging procedures while ensuring ethical compliance, data integrity, and participant safety. The role contributes to building and maintaining a national research biobank by integrating laboratory work, clinical assessments, and research coordination activities, supporting study operations from participant consent and sample processing to data review, documentation, and reporting under the guidance of the Principal Investigator and research team.

 

Data Collection & Participant Procedures

  1. Responsible for obtaining informed consent, performing participant assessments, and ensuring all research procedures are conducted safely and according to protocol. 
  2. Maintains clear communication with participants to ensure comfort, cooperation, and understanding of procedures.
  3. Ensures accurate and complete recording of participant data and imaging results in the research database.
  4. Monitors participant safety and privacy throughout all research activities.
  5. Ensures turnaround times and scheduling targets are consistently met.

 

Sample Processing 

  1. Assists with laboratory-based experiments and biological sample processing in accordance with standard operating procedures.
  2. Ensures proper handling, labeling, storage, and tracking of all samples to maintain data integrity.
  3. Performs biomarker assays and routine laboratory measurements accurately and efficiently.
  4. Maintains a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment at all times.
  5. Reports any deviations, errors, or technical issues promptly to the research team and PI.

 

Imaging & Data Analysis (Ultrasound, Image Review)

  1. Performs carotid ultrasound scans within established turnaround times while maintaining high image quality.
  2. Reviews and analyses imaging data to measure intima-media thickness and identify vascular abnormalities.
  3. Ensures consistency and standardization of imaging techniques through regular reassessment and calibration.
  4. Validates image and data accuracy before storage in the research database.
  5. Documents observations and results clearly for downstream analysis and reporting. 

 

Ethics & Regulatory Compliance (IRB, Documentation)

  1. Supports the preparation, submission, and maintenance of IRB and ethics documentation for ongoing and new studies.
  2. Ensures all research activities comply with institutional, national, and international ethical guidelines.
  3. Maintains accurate and up-to-date study documentation and consent records.
  4. Coordinates closely with the PI to address amendments, renewals, and audit requests in a timely manner.
  5. Safeguards participant confidentiality and data governance at all stages of the research process.

 

Equipment, Inventory & Quality Control Management

  1. Performs routine calibration, quality control checks, and preventive maintenance of laboratory and imaging equipment.
  2. Coordinates with vendors to ensure timely servicing and resolution of technical issues.
  3. Manages inventory of consumables to ensure uninterrupted research operations.
  4. Monitors equipment performance and documents maintenance and calibration activities accurately.
  5. Implements corrective actions promptly to minimize downtime and maintain data quality.

Qualifications

  1. GCE O-Level / N-Level (or equivalent)\
  2. Experience in laboratory or research settings, preferably with clinical or translational research exposure.
  3. Strong skills in data collection, documentation, quality control, participant handling, and ability to work independently and in a team.
  4. Basic laboratory techniques, biological sample processing, and equipment maintenance.
  5. Ability to perform carotid ultrasound, image analysis, data entry, IRB documentation, and quality control procedures.
