The Bachelor of Environmental Studies (BES) Programme invites applications for a full-time Teaching Assistant. The appointment will begin in March 2025 for 24 months in the first instance, with subsequent renewal subject to performance.
The successful applicant will work directly with the course coordinators and teaching staff and provide teaching and logistical support for BES modules and programme-related events, including the field trip course ENV3102 Field Course in Environmental Studies. The job scope will include but is not limited to assisting lecturers with course organization, co-teaching of tutorial sessions, grading of assignments, outreach activities and organization of field equipment. This position will involve substantial interaction with students and will require a willingness to undertake field activities and travel overseas.
Job Description
- Provide teaching, logistical, and administrative support to ensure the smooth delivery of a range of ENV-coded and Geography courses, including the overseas field trip course ENV3102 Field Course in Environmental Studies.
- Assist in creating and preparing lesson content and course materials.
- Grade and provide timely feedback for course assignments and exam scripts.
- Coordinate and administer ENV3202A Environmental Studies Internship course, including liaising with students, updating materials, expanding the programme’s industry contacts and facilitating communications between industry partners and the programme.
- Provide other ad hoc teaching-related duties as assigned by the BES Programme Committee, including assisting with invigilation duties for ENV-coded modules and the tallying of marks during the examination period.
- Oversee all BES equipment (to keep equipment in good order, and to coordinate purchases, repairs or replacements as necessary).
- Provide assistance to the BES Programme Committee for the organization of BES related events, including Asia Environment Lecture and other engagement events.
- Participate in BES outreach events, including NUS Open House events.
- Keep “BES News and Blog” maintained and updated and ensure that the BES website generally is accurate and functioning.
Qualifications
- Degree in Environmental Studies/Geography
- Strong foundation and interest in geography, sustainability or environment
- Willingness to participate in field activities, including travel overseas for field courses
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Positive and proactive attitude to work
- Comfortable working independently and as a part of a team
- Creative, meticulous, resourceful and self-motivated
