Teaching Assistants (Communications and New Media) (2 x Positions)
We are seeking applicants with expertise in one or more of the following areas: interactive writing, data journalism, digital/transmedia storytelling, media production, corporate communication, public relations, campaign management, social media PR, public relations writing, user experience design, media policy, public speaking, digital storytelling, interactive media design, digital/social media for strategic communication, game design, and interdisciplinary topics such as basic chemistry, biology, and physiological medicine.
Anticipated Start Date: 1 July 2025
Qualifications
Successful candidates must possess at least a good Honours degree in communication or a closely related discipline, along with skills and expertise in the relevant field by the start date of the appointment and a record of excellence in teaching (if applicable). A passion for working closely with students and a commitment to student learning are essential. Successful candidates are also expected to have experience with online teaching, and savvy with content creation such as podcasts and websites.
Candidates must:
- Have excellence verbal, reading, visual and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly.
- Be able to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team with diverse interest and opinions .
- Show a strong interest in continued engagement with various humanities and non-humanities disciplines, as well as a commitment to pedagogical improvement.
- Possess a strong ability to facilitate discussions for undergraduate students.
- Past teaching, research and facilitation experience (especially at the university level) with positive student feedback, will be considered an advantage.
Job Responsibilities
Successful candidates are expected to:
- Perform between 220 and 280 hours of in-classroom teaching under the Department of Communications and New Media per academic year.
- Fulfil a service role within the Department of Communications and New Media.
- Conduct student consultations
- Perform other course-related duties if necessary.

- Able to teach at least three (3) GE/HS/NM-coded courses offered by the department under undergraduate programme.
